SC07:Reno Logistics for November
From SC Education
We will be able to setup a registration desk in the main lobby of the Nugget Hotel on Friday evening. People will be able to easily see the SC07 Education Program registration desk as they register for a hotel room. The hotel will arrange for a few tables for us - is 3 tables enough? There is lots of room in the lobby!
After people register, I'll have a suite and we'll invite people up for an informal welcome - light snacks and drinks. An informal get together. There are a number of eating places in walking distance of this hotel for those that want to go out and get a meal. Of course there are lots of gambling options in the hotel and nearby for those that want to pursue that as well.
The hotel brings in lots of entertainment - they usually announce entertainers about 45 days in advance, so we should be able to give people information on entertainment options (at their own cost) as well before they arrive.
I plan to talk with people tomorrow about getting us name badges and bags Friday evening. We will have badges that get Education Program participants into the education program and the technical program (but not tutorials).
Saturday evening we have a room at the Nugget for posters and heavy snacks. I have a copy of their food options and can pass that along to you when I return if you'd like to help select the menu. Mary Amiot will be our point of contact for that.
I plan to talk with Jan Hull tomorrow about lunches at the convention center. I plan to offer to share the same menu with the tutorials participants and see what Jan has planned. And where she recommends we eat.
Sunday the exhibitor party is at a nearby bowling alley - some 85 bowling lanes. I'll try to find out what other entertainment is offered there as well tomorrow.
I've talked with Laura Arns about the Student Volunteer program and getting more help early for setup. She says we can recommend students we want to have help us, who know what we do. This will help a lot.
All hotels are in sight of one another. The Atlantis is walking distance of the convention center. There will be buses to the others, as they cross major highways. Bus ride from the Nugget should be about 10-15 minutes. We're only 5 minutes further away than the Grand Sierra, where the conference committee is staying.
The airport is about 10-15 minutes from the Nugget hotel, and about 5-10 minutes away from the convention center.
