Petascale-workshop
From Education
May 23 through June 5 at the NCSA Access Center in Arlington, VA
If the audience is what we think (mostly undergrads and some faculty all of whom have some experience) than we think this workshop is about:
- 1/2 week review of SIPE and intro P and D material
- 1 week of Intermediate P and D material
- 1/2 week of Petascale (aka Extreme HPC) material
Much of the Intermediate material (hybrid models, debugging, performance analysis and improvement) is appropriate for the Petascale crowd.
Labs
- Scaling a common community code, e.g. weather, geography/LIDAR, molecular dynamics and scaling the problem/resource up from single digit cores to thousands of cores by a factor of 2 each time. Consider having the appropriate domain expert lead the lab via the AccessGrid.
- Large scale communication
- Large scale I/O with HDF
- Large scale parallel I/O with ?
- Debugging with TotalView (and debugging w/o TotalView?)
Notes and Questions
- Work in the range of 10s of teraflops to 100s of teraflops.
- Should we cover GPGPU in this workshop? If so use the materials from the Intermediate P and D workshop.
Resources
- Can we use Ranger for this workshop?
