Guidelines, Outcomes, and Helpful Hints for Pathways Working Groups
Potential outcomes from Pathways workshops:
- Concept map (or competencies) for your discipline
- Curriculum materials for your discipline
- Verified, validated, and accredited (if applicable) content added to CSERD
- Identify and recruit people to conduct V, V and A materials for CSERD
- Outline(s) for week-long summer workshop with specific curriculum pointers
- Outline(s) for one-day outreach events
- Identify potential instructors and assistant instructors (students)
- Identify specific recruiting mechanisms/communities for summer workshops
- Recommendations for future Pathways gatherings
It's not reasonable to think that a single gathering can complete all of them. We offer them as guidelines so you can plan your efforts more effectively and have a sense of what the steering community needs from your discipline. Organizing our work this way also gives us a structure into which all the Pathways efforts can be rationally combined.
In your proposal to the committee choose the subset that's appropriate for where your discipline is now and document the specific activities and deliverables and how they'll meet those outcomes. Based on our experiences the steering committee may suggest particular items to a Pathways group for consideration. If there is something your group is considering that isn't on the list don't hesitate to suggest it.
The last item, future recommendations, is important. Funding for Pathways currently expires in November, 2008. If we are going to build a case to present to the SC Steering Committee for extending support we'll need to document what we would do with the funds.
Notes
- Build a case for a proposal to continue funding Pathways through 2009-2010 if we see the need.
